The day is primarily reserved for acclimatization to help your body adjust to the high altitude and to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS); it is essential to rest and stay well-hydrated. In the evening, you can head out to explore Lehβs vibrant local market for some shopping and cultural experiences. You will also visit the historic Leh Palace and later enjoy a stunning panoramic sunset view from the serene Shanti Stupa. The day concludes with an overnight stay in Leh.
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, begin your scenic journey to Kargil with several enriching stops along the way. Your first stop is Magnetic Hill, where you can witness a fascinating optical illusion that seemingly defies gravity. Next, visit the revered Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a significant Sikh pilgrimage site, followed by Sangam Point, where the mighty Indus and Zanskar rivers merge in a breathtaking confluence. Continue onward to the ancient Lamayuru Monastery, known for its striking "Moonland" landscape that resembles the surface of the moon. The drive takes you through two prominent mountain passesβFotu La, the highest pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway at 4,108 meters, and Namika La, another scenic high-altitude pass at 3,700 meters. En route, you will also visit the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, a solemn tribute to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War. Upon arrival in Kargil, check into your hotel and rest for the night, with an overnight stay in Kargil.
Begin your day early for a long and adventurous drive through the stunning Suru Valley, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Begin your day with an early departure from Purne for a long and scenic journey to Sarchu, traversing some of the regionβs most dramatic landscapes. Along the route, you will cross major high-altitude mountain passes, including Shinku La Pass, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, and the formidable Baralacha La Pass, known for its unpredictable weather and awe-inspiring vistas. As you descend into Sarchu, located at the border between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, prepare for a unique and adventurous overnight experience. Settle into a high-altitude campsite, where the rugged terrain and crisp mountain air set the perfect stage for a memorable night. Enjoy the rare opportunity to sleep under a clear, star-filled sky, before retiring for an overnight stay in Sarchu.
Embark on a scenic drive back to Leh, journeying through some of the most iconic and dramatic landscapes of the region. The route includes navigating the famous Gata Loops, a series of 21 sharp hairpin bends that offer thrilling views and a unique driving experience. Continue to Tanglang La, standing at 5,328 meters, it is the second-highest motorable pass in the world and provides stunning panoramic vistas. Pass through Pang, a picturesque high-altitude plateau, and then traverse the expansive More Plains, a remarkable 40-kilometer stretch of flat land situated at a high altitude.
